Pair of opposites

Pairs of opposites play an essential role in our thinking. If there were no darkness, we would not know what light is, if there were no small, we would not know what big is. The two poles together constitute human existence. We are all good and bad at the same time. Many times, we grow up thinking we are supposed to be pure and good beings, but the more we turn to the light the more the shadow and the monster grow in our unconscious.

But the knowledge of this very simple truth is largely lost on us. This is what I wanted to evoke in this painting, drawing inspiration from myths and fairy tales, where the opposites are often twins, brothers or sisters, or even two dissimilar figures.
